" I joined Mama Fasi’s drumming class along with my two young daughters at the beginning of 2022. There were grandmothers, moms and girls of all ages gathered together learning the unique melodically teaching style that she offered. The techniques and musical language were not only engaging but very easy and effective. Many in our class had never been exposed to any musical instrument, but in a short time, we played as if we’d had years of experience.
I highly recommend Mama Farsi’s workshops, in-person and online classes. They were so much fun and incredibly enriching. "

Drumming with Mama Fasi is more than a drum class. It's definitely therapy as well as Spiritual Enrichment. The women's only class allowed me to connect with my fellow sisters, mothers and grandmother's in a different way as many soul connections were made and these amazing women were able to come together to heal. Watching the progress my own mother continues to make fills me with a warm feeling and cherished memories. Drum class for me was without a doubt an essential element in my healing process. In mixed class I was afforded the opportunity to play side by side with my father which is a memory I will cherish forever. Mama Fasi is more than a teacher she is a mentor, mother, healer and spiritual leader. May the benevolent ancestors continue to bless Mama Fasi as her legacy builds from strength to strength. We love you Mama. Asé Asé Asé oooo

When I met Mama Fasi for the very first time, I was intimidated by the drums because I never played before. Mama Fasi invited me into the drum circle and explained to me how to position my drum and where the sounds of the drum are located. ( bass and tone ). I followed Mama Fasi's lead and before long I was actually playing a drum pattern with confidence and ease. I still play the drums today and have fun being in the moment. Thank you Mama Fasi for making playing the drums so fun!

My acquaintance with Mama Fasi is as an employer, mentor and friend. I have known her since the early 80’s when she served as the Director of Cultural Arts for my youth and family services organization.
She is a most gifted performing artist and master teacher.
Mama Fasi is a great teaching artist because of her focus on the whole child—she doesn’t just teach how to make music with African drums, she teaches self-respect, generosity, kindness, and compassion. Through her demeanor and communication, she exemplifies the lessons she tries to teach.
When you attend a workshop/class with Mama Fasi, everbody plays! No one sits on the sidelines. Her mantra ever since I have known her has been love, respect and reciprocity—the mantra has guided her success in working with all the seasons of life--children through elders. One of her most successful programs is Girls and Grandmas. once a week intergenerational class includes four-yearold girls through ninety-five year old great-great-great grandmothers.
I have purchased various musical instruments and teaching products from Mama Fasi and have always been pleased with her service and the quality of her many useful teaching tools.

Upon arriving in Cape Coast, my brother and I were welcomed by the warm embrace of Mama Fasi. From the very first moment, she immersed us in the vibrant sounds and rhythms of the drum, a symphony that still echoes in our memories. My brother and I often find ourselves reminiscing about that moment, where the air was thick with the passion and devotion that Mama Fasi pours into her craft. Her teaching wasn't just an exchange of knowledge; it was an experience steeped in compassion, simplicity, and an overwhelming love for both the art and her students. Learning under Mama Fasi is not merely an education—it’s an invitation to connect with the heart of a culture, wrapped in wisdom and carried by a rhythm that lingers long after the final beat.

I escorted My Mother, Rev E, to Mama Fasi's Girls to Grandmother's Worksop one fine day, unawares that I Myself would participate! Mom had spent all morning preparing Herself to go, and rushing Me to get Her there on time! She was very eager to spend the day playing Drums with Mama Fasi.
Arriving late, We were warmly greeted by Mama Fasi and the Women and Girls in attendance! Immediately, We were given the supplies necessary to build Our very own homemade Drum, and were quickly prompted to "catch up" with Everyone else!
We all felt a sense of accomplishment, and Pride as Mami Fasi taught Us how to play basic rhythms with our Self-fashioned, customized Drums and Drumsticks!
Next, We gathered in a circle with actual Djembe Drums to play!
Mama Fasi's instructions were gentle but firm! She told Us that the Drum is Sacred and to never step over it or use it for anything other than to Drum.
Divided into two groups, some of Us were taught to play a Sacred Rhythm along with a simple chant to help Us keep time. The rest of Us were given a different Sacred Rhythm with a different simple chant, and as We practised our parts, we began to "feel it"! Before long, the melodies took shape, our voices harmonized, and We found ourselves performing together like a proper Sacred Drum Corp!
It was a magical day! Not only did Mami Fasi give us the gift of the Sacred Drum, She also fostered a communion of Sacred Sisterhood and Kindred Fellowship. And a good time was had by All!

Linda Thomas Jones, Fasi, is an African American, Yoruba Priestess, female drummer. My first introduction to the electric sound of her drums was at a teen stop center called Short Stop. As soon as I witnessed her style and passion for the music, I knew I wanted to play African drums and different forms of percussion. I contacted her and that began a 7-year journey of learning to play, and it became my passion as well, for this fantastic art form. Along with many private lessons one on one, she taught me to be a confident strong djembe player. I developed a strong commitment toward continued learning and traveled many places to attend her workshops. I appreciate her clear and structured way of presenting the rhythms. She tells stories and gives short phrases to help one remember the rhythms. She is very adamant about the technique, she corrects the student's posture, so one exudes energy as one plays, benefiting you and everyone within hearing. As an educator, this teacher tells the history of the drum, so you began to understand the struggles, and greatness of the people that these drums come from. She has a wonderful understanding of the music, lifestyle and traditions that make up the culture. She has a gifted ability of bringing community together thru the music, both young and old. We have been friends for many years, I am so glad I was drawn and guided to her by my ancestors. I am grateful for the opportunity many years ago of being in a professional drum group, Iya Ilu (mothers of the drum) with Linda, where she was the founder and creative director of the group. I learned a lot. This educator cares about her students and wants them to love the drumming experience as she does and gives that excellence thru the way she guides and mentors.
